Managing Union Support Staff Performance

Each Collective Bargaining Agreement has information regarding the probationary period for union support staff. Please refer to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement for more information.

There is no formal performance management program for union support staff and they do not receive written performance evaluations. However, managers are expected to regularly coach staff and provide feedback on job performance. In addition, some unions have job standards such as timeliness, appearance, etc. There are a number of tools and resources available through the performance management program to help managers provide coaching and feedback. The HR Client Manager and Labor Relations should be consulted regarding documenting poor performance of union employees.
