Managing Non-Union Support Staff Performance
In accordance with the University’s Performance Management and Appraisal Policy, non-union support staff should receive written feedback about their performance once a year, unless there are problems that require more frequent documentation.
In addition, non-union support staff are considered to be on probationary status for the first 60 calendar days of employment. During the probationary period, either the employee or the University may terminate employment without notice. The University’s Probationary Performance Evaluation Policy provides guidance on managing the probationary process.
Key Actions:
-
Complete the Probationary Performance Evaluation Form at the end of the probationary period
-
Provide all non-union support staff with written feedback about their performance at least annually
-
Please use the University's online Performance Appraisal Form, unless your school or department has indicated otherwise. There is also a Performance Appraisal Job Aid to help you use the form.
-
Keep all written performance evaluations confidential and treat them with great sensitivity
-
Engage the department’s HR Client Manager and/or the Office of the General Counsel early in the process if there are for performance issues or concerns, as warranted by the issues’ nature and severity
